SPECIAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR THE
DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED
There is a program available to people with mental
retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, and learning
problems—regardless of their strengths, weaknesses, or age. The
SPRED program is designed specifically to meet their spiritual needs
and help them grow in faith.
Our St. Kieran parish hosts adults, 22 and older;
St. James in Sauk Village hosts children, 6-10 years of age; Our
Lady of Knock hosts teens, 11-16 years old. We here at St. Kieran
have a need for a few more adult volunteers — men and women. In our
group, each volunteer forms a one-on-one friendship with a person
with disabilities. No experience with people of special needs is
necessary, because training is provided.
SPRED is not a teaching program, but a small faith
community who gather to grow in their faith, as they welcome their
special friends. SPRED helps us to see the Lord as part of our
everyday lives ... risen and alive.

service to our brothers and sisters in Christ, please call the rectory
