SPRED is a ministry
that welcomes people of all ages with a variety of developmental disabilities
into the faith life of the parish. SPRED
provides a method which helps us to know God and grow in faith.
Parishioners are
invited to enter into a personal friendship with a developmentally disabled
adult. They are asked to become
part of a small faith community and share life and faith with their friend.
SPRED members meet
once each week, for approximately 24 weeks between October and May, for a 2 1/2
to 3 hour session. Bi-weekly
sessions consist of preparation by the SPRED members for the gathering with our
disabled friends the following week. These
sessions with our friends include simple activities, prayer, and agape (sharing
food and companionship.)
The Archdiocese of
Chicago sponsors training sessions for all who wish to become part of the
special SPRED ministry. Here at St.
Kieran, we urgently need loving, caring men and women to minister to our special
friends. For more information,
