Today's scriptures speak to
us of wisdom. When God offered a gift to Solomon he chose wisdom so that
he might understand how to govern his people. In the gospel Jesus
described the Kingdom in terms of people who seized the opportunities of
life. One person found a great treasure and sold everything he had to
buy the field and own the treasure. Another was searching for pearls
when he found one of great quality. He too sold everything to make it
his own. Jesus tells us that this is what it is like with the Kingdom.
There is a price for living in the Kingdom. One must sacrifice
everything else and seize the moment.
How many times has the Spirit of the Lord urged us to do this or that?
We may recognize an opportunity to serve the Lord but we have so many
other responsibilities that we let it pass. Most likely it will never
come again. The people in Jesus' parables realized that they had to make
a choice immediately. They were heroes because they made the commitment
to seize the moment.
Today we are an invited to look for the Kingdom in our lives and to
respond by doing whatever it takes to make it our own.
