One of the central beliefs of
our faith is the community of love we call the Trinity. The relationship
of three divine persons in one Godhead can best be described as a
mystery of our faith. You might think about how at one and the same
time, you are a parent, a child, and a friend, in your own life. The
mystery is how could you be so perfect a parent, child, and friend that
you would be three distinct persons and yet one you! Greater minds than
ours have pondered the Trinity without comprehending this great mystery.
Perhaps more significant for us is a prayerful meditation on the
communal nature of the Trinity. Imagine that at the center of all
creation there is a community of persons in love. All of the known
universe in its vastness, in its smallness is the by-product of this
Trinitarian love. We are not bio-chemical accidents in the universe. We
are the children of a loving God, bought at a great price by the one who
loves us.
In the Trinity we have a wonderful example of what love can do to make
the world a better place. It is a beautiful, loving command, simply put
by the Lord, "Love one another, as I have loved you!"
